The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has announced Mohamed Alhajie Samoura, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Sierra Leone, as the keynote speaker for its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM).
According to the SLAJ Secretariat, Samoura will deliver the keynote address on the theme, “Strengthening Sierra Leone’s Economy through Responsible Journalism.”
A seasoned banker with nearly two decades of experience in Sierra Leone’s banking industry, Samoura is widely recognized for his contributions to the financial sector and his commitment to business growth and economic development.
Prior to his appointment as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Sierra Leone, he served as the bank’s Executive Director for Business Development, where he played a pivotal role in expanding the institution’s operations and strengthening its market presence.
SLAJ noted that Samoura’s extensive knowledge of the country’s corporate and institutional banking landscape makes him well-positioned to provide valuable insights on the role of responsible journalism in promoting economic growth, transparency, and national development.
Beyond his leadership at UBA Sierra Leone, Samoura currently serves as President of the Sierra Leone Association of Commercial Banks, a position that places him at the forefront of discussions on the country’s financial and economic policies.
His achievements have earned him several accolades over the years. Most recently, he was named among the 100 Most Outstanding Executives in Sierra Leone by the Sierra Ovation Awards, in recognition of his leadership and impact within the corporate sector.
Academically, Samoura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in Marketing.
SLAJ expressed confidence that his wealth of experience and expertise will enrich discussions at the AGM and contribute meaningfully to conversations on how the media can support economic development through ethical and responsible reporting.
The AGM is expected to bring together journalists, media practitioners, stakeholders, and development partners from across the country to deliberate on key issues affecting the media landscape and national development.
