Former President Ernest Bai Koroma is expected to attend the ECOWAS Summit scheduled for this weekend, following the government’s decision to discontinue the treason-related charges against him.

The move, which was unanimously endorsed by Parliament on Thursday, 16 July 2026, is said to be part of broader efforts aimed at promoting goodwill, confidence building, and national healing.

According to credible sources, the former president is expected to attend the regional gathering as part of Sierra Leone’s wider diplomatic engagements and may accompany Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the summit.

The decision to discontinue the charges against Koroma marks a significant development in the country’s political landscape, with observers viewing it as a step towards reducing tensions and strengthening dialogue among key political actors.

The ECOWAS Summit, which brings together heads of state and government from the regional bloc, is expected to focus on issues affecting West Africa, including regional security, economic cooperation, and democratic governance.
