Fourah Bay College (FBC) has taken another major step towards its bicentenary celebrations with the formal launch of the FBC @200 Fundraising Beach Fiesta, an initiative aimed at mobilising support for the institution’s historic 200th anniversary.
The launch, held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, brought together members of the College Administration, the Fiesta Organising Committee and other stakeholders as preparations intensify for what is expected to be one of the major highlights of the FBC @200 celebrations.
The event is designed not only as a fundraising initiative but also as a platform to bring together students, alumni, staff, partners and friends of Fourah Bay College to celebrate two centuries of academic excellence, institutional heritage and contributions to Sierra Leone and the wider West African region.
Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Andrew Biao commended the Fiesta Organising Committee for what he described as a timely and commendable initiative.
He called on students, the College Administration, alumni, partners and the general public to support the fundraising drive, purchase tickets and actively participate in the bicentenary celebrations.
A major highlight of the launch was the official unveiling of the FBC @200 Fiesta banner by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. The unveiling formally gave the fundraising fiesta its visual identity as the College moves closer to its bicentenary celebrations.
The Organising Committee has called on every Fourahbite and friend of Fourah Bay College to take ownership of the initiative by purchasing tickets, mobilising friends and colleagues, and using social and traditional media platforms to promote the event.
According to the Committee, the publicity campaign will now be rolled out across the student community, alumni networks, media platforms and other stakeholder groups, with the aim of making the fiesta one of the most memorable events of the FBC bicentenary celebrations.
The Committee also expressed appreciation to its members for the time, energy, ideas and resources invested in bringing the initiative to this stage. It stressed, however, that the fiesta is bigger than the organising committee and belongs to the entire Fourah Bay College community.
As Fourah Bay College approaches its historic bicentenary, the fiesta is expected to provide an opportunity for generations of Fourahbites to reconnect, celebrate their shared heritage and contribute to the future of an institution widely regarded as the “Anthem of West Africa.”
The much-anticipated FBC @200 Fundraising Beach Fiesta is scheduled for October 31, 2026, at Sugar Land Beach, where students, alumni, staff, friends and supporters of Fourah Bay College are expected to gather for an evening of celebration, entertainment, networking and fundraising.
With the launch officially completed, attention now turns to ticket sales, mobilisation and publicity as the countdown to the historic FBC @200 celebrations gathers momentum.
