Calabash Publisher Amin Kef Named Among Sierra Leone’s 100 Most Impactful Leaders

Amin Kef, Publisher and Managing Editor of The Calabash Newspaper, has been recognised among the 100 Most Impactful Sierra Leonean Leaders of 2026 in acknowledgement of his leadership, professional achievements and contributions to national development.

The recognition was presented by the West Africa Youth and Children’s Advocacy Network (WAYCAN) during the inaugural 100 Most Impactful Sierra Leonean Leaders Awards ceremony held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Bintumani Hotel in Aberdeen, Freetown.

The event brought together personalities from various professional backgrounds to celebrate individuals whose work, leadership and service have contributed to Sierra Leone’s development.

Kef, an investigative journalist, media consultant and newspaper publisher, was selected for his contributions to journalism, media management and public communication.

According to the award citation, his selection followed an assessment of his leadership record, professional accomplishments, community contributions and commitment to national advancement. The organisers also highlighted his efforts to inspire others, create opportunities and contribute to social progress.

Reacting to the recognition, Kef expressed gratitude to WAYCAN for selecting him among the country’s 100 most impactful leaders.

“I am proud and deeply honoured to be recognised among the 100 Most Impactful Sierra Leonean Leaders of 2026. This prestigious recognition is a testament to dedication, hard work, perseverance and a continued commitment to making a positive difference in society. I am truly grateful for this honour,” he said.

He described the award as an important milestone in his professional journey and an encouragement to continue contributing to society through journalism, media consultancy and community engagement.

As Publisher and Managing Editor of The Calabash Newspaper, Kef has been involved in newspaper publishing, investigative journalism and media management, contributing to public information and national discourse on issues affecting Sierra Leone.

His work also extends to media consultancy and public communication, with professional activities covering areas including governance, business and community development.

WAYCAN had formally informed Kef of his selection in a congratulatory letter dated August 20, 2026, signed by the Chairman of the Awards Committee, Dr. Alimatu Deen Kamara.

The letter stated that the nomination had undergone a competitive assessment involving individuals from different sectors across the country. It attributed his selection to his leadership, professional achievements, dedication to service and contributions to national development.

The organisation said the awards initiative was established to recognise individuals whose work has positively influenced communities, institutions, industries and the wider society.

The inaugural ceremony recognised professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators, public servants and community leaders for their contributions to Sierra Leone’s progress.

For Kef, the award adds to his professional milestones and highlights the role of media practitioners in public education, responsible journalism and national development.
