Flagbearer aspirant of the All People’s Congress (APC), Ady Macauley, has criticised the decision by the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP)-led government to appoint an Acting Mayor for the Freetown City Council.

Macauley described the move by the administration of President Julius Maada Bio as being made in bad faith, arguing that the sitting mayor has committed no breach of the Local Government Act to justify her replacement or the appointment of an acting official.

His comments follow the government’s decision to appoint an Acting Mayor amid an ongoing boycott by the opposition APC. The boycott reportedly affected the participation of elected officials, including Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, who has been absent from her official duties.

The development has sparked debate over the legality and political implications of the decision, with concerns raised about governance and adherence to established local council laws.
