The leadership of the Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID), headed by Chief Immigration Officer Dr. Moses Tiffa Baio Esq, alongside senior management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, has convened a three-day strategic retreat aimed at reviewing and developing its annual workplan in line with government development priorities.

The retreat, which commenced on Friday, 12 June 2026, is being held at the Wizard Hotel Conference Hall in Bo. It brings together senior officials to reflect on operational strategies, strengthen institutional coordination, and align future activities with national development goals and public service delivery expectations.

In his welcome address, Chief Immigration Officer Dr. Moses Tiffa Baio Esq outlined the key objectives of the engagement, including the review of the department’s workplan, capacity strengthening, and the promotion of teamwork and institutional cohesion.

He urged participants to fully engage in the sessions, emphasizing the importance of active participation in achieving institutional growth and improved service delivery.

“I urge all officers to engage fully and take these sessions seriously, as your active participation is vital to our collective success and institutional growth,” Dr. Baio stated.

Dr. Baio also commended the resilience and dedication of personnel within the department, particularly highlighting the contributions of key officers whose commitment, he said, continues to set a strong example for leadership development within the institution.

He further led a session focused on the presentation and review of a Concept Note for Cabinet consideration.

Day one of the retreat focused on the review of the revised Immigration Act, presentation and discussion of the Concept Note, and examination of the department’s Strategic Plan pillars. These pillars include Service Excellence, Integrity and Ethics, Digitization and Technology, and Regimental Transformation.

As part of the engagement, participants were divided into four working groups, each assigned to deliberate on one of the strategic pillars. The groups later presented their findings, followed by interactive question-and-answer sessions aimed at deepening understanding and encouraging collaboration.

The retreat is expected to strengthen SLID’s operational efficiency and enhance its alignment with national governance and service delivery reforms.
