PRESIDENT JULIUS MAADA BIO ACKNOWLEDGES MASSIVE PROGRESS AT NASSIT

In his address to Parliament on Monday, 10th May, 2022 on the occasion of the opening of the Fifth Session of Parliament, His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio, acknowledged, among other things, the massive turn around at the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) under the leadership of Mohamed Fuaad Daboh.

According to His Excellency, the Scheme had made great strides in the enforcement of compliance and membership, “as it now covers over 5,375 establishments, with 267,419 active contributors and 28,039 pensioners”.

The President spoke about efforts made by the Fuaad Daboh administration to address the challenges that cause delay in the payment of benefits by establishing a specialised unit known Project 54+ to facilitate the update of members records before applying for social security benefits, the holding of mobile customer service clinics to bring services closer to members, and the high visibility and strong public engagement in order to deepen the knowledge-base of members on the Scheme processes and procedures.

On transparency and accountability, the President told parliament that he had set up the Social Security Appellate Tribunal as a redress mechanism for members who would be dissatisfied with the services provided by the Trust, particularly the amount of benefit paid to them.
Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio also described NASSIT as an active player in the financial market in Sierra Leone, saying that it was actively participating in various sectors of the economy in support of national development.

His Excellency disclosed that the Trust was working with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to establish an appropriate scheme for workers in the informal sector who comprised the bulk of the workforce in the country, adding that measures and legislation regarding the Informal Sector Scheme would soon be tabled before Parliament.

NASSIT, WE CARE!
