Orange SL Launches the First 5G Trial in Sierra Leone

Orange Sierra Leone launch 5G trial service to prepaid and postpaid mobile users, giving subscribers access to higher speeds, enhanced connectivity, and low latency.

Leading a new digital development, Orange Sierra Leone will pilot its 5G trial service only in the Freetown Central Business District. This announcement comes as an extension of the company’s technological expansion drive to enable subscribers to explore the new service.

The company affirmed that 5G trial service is designed to ensure best value in speed, capacity, and innovation to cater to all users and their diverse needs to experience the new technology and its potential.

Sekou Drame, CEO of Sonatel stated: “the launch is indeed a major milestone for Sierra Leone. I am delighted that Orange Sierra Leone is providing leadership in setting the technology standard baseline for 5G by rolling out this cutting-edge pilot stage on our network in line with a corporate vision of becoming a first class mobile internet service provider in Sierra Leone”.

The announcement of the official pilot launch comes after Orange Sierra Leone completed the necessary infrastructure to provide 5G trail service through its network at the approved locations specified in the trial license granted by the Regulatory Authority. During the first stage, Orange Sierra Leone will test few use case scenarios for 5G expansion to increase speed on fixed wireless access and mobile broadband.
