The National Revenue Authority (NRA) is leading Sierra Leone’s participation in the 8th High-Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) and 23rd General Assembly of the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF), which commenced on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in Accra, Ghana.

The five-day gathering, running from September 15 to 19, brings together heads of tax administrations, policymakers, development partners, private-sector representatives and international tax experts from across West Africa and beyond.

The forum is being held under the theme “Building Stronger Tax Administrations for Revenue Mobilisation and Sustainable Development,” with participants discussing strategies to strengthen tax administrations and advance sustainable domestic revenue mobilisation.

Sierra Leone’s delegation is being led by Deputy Commissioner General II of the NRA, Edmond B. Nonie, who is representing the country at the regional tax forum.

The discussions are focusing on key areas including digital transformation, taxpayer compliance, innovation, environmental fiscal policy, regional cooperation and emerging international tax reforms.

The gathering opened with remarks from the Chairperson of the WATAF Council, Talato Elaine Djiguemde-Ouedraogo, who highlighted the importance of stronger tax administrations in supporting revenue mobilisation and sustainable development.

Sierra Leone’s participation provides an opportunity for the NRA to engage with tax administrations and other stakeholders from across the region, share experiences and contribute to discussions on emerging issues affecting tax administration and domestic revenue mobilisation.

The forum will continue through September 19, with participants expected to examine practical approaches to strengthening tax systems, improving taxpayer compliance and enhancing cooperation among West African tax administrations.
