The Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority, Mr. Abu Martin Kanneh, has on Monday 28th September 2026 commenced an internal familiarization tour at the Customs Services Department at Customs House, Cline Town, Freetown. This drive forms part of the efforts to engage staff and strengthen collaboration towards the Authority’s revenue mobilisation mandate.
Addressing staff, CG Kanneh recalled his journey at customs starting as collector and rose through the ranks to being Commissioner of Customs. He therefore noted that his understanding of the department’s critical role in revenue mobilisation is depth and that the department’s overall role can be seen through firm collaboration.
’’I was here as the Commissioner of Customs, so I know the work you are doing. I am here now as Commissioner General, and I want us to work together to achieve the mandate of the NRA,” he said.
He disclosed that the Minister of Finance had emphasised the Government’s need for increased revenue, urging NRA Customs staff to support the effort.
’’The Government needs more revenue now than ever before. I am therefore calling on all of you at Customs to support us in that direction,’’ he stated.
Deputy Commissioner General I, Mrs. Ann-Marie Baby Harding, urged staff to support the Commissioner General while stressing the importance of discipline, professionalism and adherence to the law.
’’There is no hiding place for anyone who wants to do otherwise,” she cautioned, urging staff to conduct themselves within the confines of the law.
The Deputy Commissioner General II, Ing. Edmond Benjamin Nonie, challenged staff to focus on producing results, emphasising his commitment to an open-door policy.
“I am particular about results. We must be able to demonstrate what we are achieving. My door is open,” he said.
The Commissioner of Customs Services, Mr. Tennyson Bio, called on staff to support CG Kanneh in delivering on his mandate and assured him of the continued support and cooperation of the Customs Services Department.
The engagement provided an opportunity for NRA’s Senior Management to interact with staff, reinforce teamwork and underscore the importance of Customs in advancing the NRA’s revenue mobilisation objectives.
