Barrister and Solicitor Nicky Spencer-Coker has formally declared her intention to contest for the position of Vice-President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association for the 2026/2027 term, calling for unity, professionalism, and renewed institutional strength within the legal profession.

In her declaration addressed to learned colleagues and members of the Bar, Spencer-Coker emphasized that her decision to enter the race is grounded in “humility, conviction, and a deep sense of professional responsibility,” at what she described as a critical moment for both the Bar and the nation.

“United we stand and divided we fall we do not want to fall, and if we are to stand strong, we need to be united,” she stated, underscoring her central message of cohesion within the legal fraternity.

Spencer-Coker, who has practised as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone for nearly 14 years, highlighted a career spanning both national and international service. She previously served as State Counsel at the Law Officers’ Department and later as Defence Counsel with the Legal Aid Board Sierra Leone, where she represented indigent clients.

On the international stage, she served as First Secretary and Spokesperson of Sierra Leone’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, representing the country on key legal and policy matters.

She also noted her leadership roles within the profession, including serving as Vice-President of L.A.W.Y.E.R.S and as the first female Secretary of the General Legal Council, a position she held for seven years.

Spencer-Coker stated that these experiences have strengthened her commitment to justice, constitutionalism, human rights, and access to justice, adding that legal leadership must be rooted in service, integrity, and inclusivity.

“Leadership is service and it requires courage, integrity, competence, and the ability to unite,” she said, pledging to work toward a more responsive and progressive Sierra Leone Bar Association if elected.

She called on members of the Bar to support her aspiration, while urging continued unity and professionalism within the legal community.

Spencer-Coker concluded by reaffirming her commitment to upholding the values of the legal profession and strengthening the Bar Association, adding: “God bless the Sierra Leone Bar Association and the Republic of Sierra Leone.”
