The Lawyers Society of Sierra Leone is set to hold its 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) tomorrow, April 8, 2026, at the prestigious New Brookfields Hotel. This year’s gathering, themed “Institutional Independence and Reforms: Pillars of Democracy,” is expected to spark engaging discussions on the state of the country’s democratic institutions.

Mr. Abdul M. Fatorma, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Initiatives, will deliver the keynote address. His remarks on institutional independence and reforms are anticipated to provide valuable insights into challenges and opportunities facing Sierra Leone’s democracy.

Unlike previous AGMs, this year’s meeting is non-elective but promises to be a thought-provoking platform for legal practitioners to deliberate on pressing issues that impact the rule of law and democratic governance. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions, share perspectives, and contribute to shaping reforms within the country’s legal and democratic frameworks.

Following the formal programme, attendees will enjoy a Raffle Bonanza and a celebratory soiree honoring newly called barristers, providing a chance for networking and social engagement among Sierra Leone’s legal professionals.

The Law Society’s AGM continues to serve as a key event in the legal calendar, reinforcing the role of the legal profession in promoting institutional integrity and democratic principles in Sierra Leone.
