In a recent interview on the Radio Democracy “Good Morning Salone program”, a significant revelation emerged regarding the former commissioner of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Ibrahim Brima Swarray The head of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) announced that Swarray was not implicated in any corrupt activities. Despite being summoned for interrogation due to his position of authority during the investigation, Swarray emerged innocent. In fact, the ACC commissioner commendably highlighted that it was Swarray himself who unearthed the suspicious activity and promptly reported it to the ACC before he was sacked.

The clarification comes as a relief, dispelling any doubts surrounding Ibrahim Brima Swarray’s integrity. The ACC’s affirmation not only vindicates Swaray but also acknowledges his proactive involvement in identifying and reporting the misconduct. This development challenges any perceptions or assumptions that may have tarnished Swaray’s reputation, highlighting instead his commitment to transparency and dedication to the public interest.

Prior to this incident, Ibrahim Brima Swarray held the esteemed position of commissioner of the National Revenue Authority. In this role, he demonstrated his competency and achieved notable milestones, notably raising billions of leones for the government of Sierra Leone. Swarray even set a historic record in November 2023 as the first Commissioner General to amass an astounding one trillion and ninety-two billion leones. This exceptional feat garnered immense praise and captured the attention of Sierra Leoneans nationwide.

Speculations had arisen regarding the sudden dismissal of Swarray by President Bio in December. Some attributed his termination to alleged corruption involving the NRA and certain banks in Sierra Leone. However, these assumptions have been firmly dismissed by the Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala. In a resounding statement, Kaifala unequivocally cleared him of any corruption charges. Not only that, but Kaifala lauded Swarray for initiating an internal investigation process even before his removal from office.

With his name cleared, Ibrahim Brima Swarray can now move forward with his reputation intact. While the circumstances surrounding his dismissal may have raised questions, the ACC’s findings provide a positive foundation for Swaray’s future endeavours.
