The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has deferred its constituency elections from Saturday, July 4, to Saturday, July 11, 2026, following consultations with the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC).

The announcement was made in a public notice issued by the party’s National Secretariat on July 2, 2026, after a consultative meeting between the APC leadership and the PPRC at Tower Hill in Freetown.

According to the party, the postponement follows an advisory note issued by the PPRC on the same day, recommending adjustments to the electoral timetable.

The APC stated that the brief deferment will allow the party to complete outstanding internal engagements and administrative processes aimed at preserving transparency, credibility, and unity in the conduct of the elections.

In the notice, APC National Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya Esq., reassured party members that the postponement does not undermine the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

“The National Leadership wishes to reassure every APC member that this adjustment in the electoral timetable does not diminish our resolve. Rather, it reflects our enduring commitment to conducting elections that are peaceful, credible, inclusive, and worthy of the confidence reposed in our great Party,” the statement read.

The party acknowledged that the current period remains challenging but emphasised that unity, discipline, and patience remain essential to overcoming internal difficulties.

The APC further urged all aspirants, delegates, members, and party officials to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to the party’s ideals as preparations continue for the successful conduct of the constituency elections on the new date.
