Prominent lawyer and All People’s Congress (APC) presidential aspirant Ady Macauley has welcomed the discharge of his friend and senior colleague, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK), from the Supreme Court contempt matter, calling for mutual respect between the Bench and the Bar.
In a statement reacting to Kamara’s discharge, Macauley said he welcomed the development, while expressing the view that the matter should not have reached the stage of contempt proceedings.
He urged members of the judiciary and the legal profession to ensure that the incident does not create divisions between the Bench and the Bar, but instead serves as a reminder of the importance of mutual respect in the administration of justice.
“Instead, may it serve as a reminder that our relationship is fundamentally symbiotic, built on mutual respect. Respect for the solemnity of the Bench goes hand in hand with respect for the dignity of counsel. Both are essential to the proper administration of justice,” Macauley stated.
He also thanked the Supreme Court for the outcome and expressed appreciation to those who stood by Kamara during the period of detention.
Macauley concluded by calling for justice and constitutional principles to prevail, declaring: “Now let Justice prevail and constitutionality Triumphs!”
Kamara was discharged from the contempt matter following an apology to Chief Justice Komba Kamanda and the retraction of his earlier remarks during proceedings relating to the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
The development has drawn reactions from members of the legal profession and political figures, with Macauley’s statement emphasising the importance of preserving a respectful relationship between the judiciary and legal practitioners.
