Sierra Leone Opens Embassy in Ankara, Turkey

Sierra Leone on Tuesday 3rd November opened its Embassy in Ankara, Turkey and the ceremony was graced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mrs Nabeela Tunis who opened the Embassy for us.

The well attended ceremony was graced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey H E Melvlut Cavusosglu, and Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Hon. Muana Brima Massaquoi, and Sierra Leone’s Director General and Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Florence Bangalie.

Welcoming the guests at the Historic event, His Excellency Mohamed Kai Samba reminded the galaxy of distinguished guests that, the opening of a Sierra Leone Embassy in Ankara is a truly historic achievement, which he stressed is a manifestation of the determination of President Maada Bio to further strengthen and develop the long standing bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and the Republic of Turkey.

Ambassador Kai Samba reminded the audience that, Sierra Leone and Turkey shares a deep desire for deeper cooperation for the benefit of the people of the two friendly countries. He further reiterated that he will invest the better part of His tour of duty playing a proactive role in enhancing further the strengthening bilateral relations between the two friendly nations, particularly in the areas of trade, tourism, education, health, infrastructural development, and agriculture and food security.

Ambassador Kai-Samba used the occasion to assure the Sierra Leone community in Turkey that, they will remain a key driver of the relations between the Sierra Leone Mission in Turkey and the Turkish Society, due to their day to day linkages with the people of Turkey.

In her address, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Madam Nabeela Tunis, conveyed a special message of condolence from President Maada Bio to The President of the Republic of Turkey, President Racep Tayip Erdogan, the Government and people of Turkey, on the loss of lives in the recent earthquake that occurred in the City of Izmir.

Highlighting the growing strength of the Sierra Leone-Turkey bilateral relation, the Minister conveyed the profound gratitude of President Bio, the Government and People of Sierra Leone’s for the continuous support and unfailing interest of the Government and People of Turkey in Sierra Leone’s efforts in strengthening peace and security as well as supporting Sierra Leone’s economic development aspirations.

Minister Tunis assured the Turkish delegation that, Sierra Leone is committed to improving trade with Turkey, revealing that, the recently signed agreements seek to operationalize cooperation in trade, defence and human capital development in the two friendly countries.

Ambassador Mohamed Kai-Samba in July presented his letters of Credence to the President Racep Tayip Erdogan, and the official opening ceremony yesterday of the Sierra Leone Embassy in Ankara by Minister of Foreign Affairs, marked the last phase in the official protocols, signaling the establishment of the Sierra Leone Embassy in Turkey.

Speaking to Sierra Leonean residing in Turkey Miss Kargbo wished the Ambassador and his Staff a successful tour of duty, stressing that, Ambassador Kai-Samba had shown a genuine intention to engage the Sierra Leone community in Turkey, and they are prepared to support him fully at all times.
