The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) has on Thursday 3rd June 2021 turned the sod for the construction of their North-West Regional Office in Port Loko Town Northern Sierra Leone. The construction of the Regional Office in the North-West Region is to help NASSIT pensioners and consumers not to labor anymore to go to Freetown to access NASSIT.
In his opening statement, the chairman of the program Hon. Alpha Osman Timbo, Minister of Labor and Social Security said NASSIT has its mandate and core functions on how they are to strengthening the mission and vision of the Trust itself. Adding that NASSIT is an excellence institution and that he was one of the pioneers in the government of the late President Tejan Kabba to establish NASSIT in the country. He noted that the office started at Bank of Sierra Leone building and in the Districts and Regions they agreed at that time to rent offices with instructions not to exceed two years in the rented buildings.
Hon. Alpha Timbo continued that it is a commendable venture by NASSIT to construct a regional office for the North-West region in Port Loko and assured them that his ministry will continue to support NASSIT in their drive.
Giving his statement, the Director General of NASSIT Mr Fuad Daboh said pensioners gave him a message for the President Dr. Julius Maada Bio to tell him thank you for keeping to his campaign promises. He revealed that there is no pensioner in Sierra Leone that is receiving less than Le 250,000.
DG Daboh said they have signed a contract with an international firm to be doing a critical analysis of NASSIT operations. Noting that NASSIT is also currently reviewing the NASSIT Act and it is almost in its completion stage. He continued that they have opened the Social Security Court to be handling the issues between employers and employees.
Director General Daboh said they are in Port Loko to lay the foundation for the construction of the NASSIT North-West Regional Office and revealed that the office will be the best in the country.
In his keynote address, the Vice President of Sierra Leone Dr Juldeh Jalloh said the day is a very big day for NASSIT,the people of Sierra Leone and for Human Capital Development in the country.
VP Jalloh said President Bio’s Government is using 22% of its GDP to promote the free quality education in Sierra Leone and that they have also recruited over four thousand teachers across the country.
The Vice President said Port Loko has suffered political injustice for the so long because the District is the only District in the country that has an Airport and a mineral port. He said their government is going to make sure all offices in other cities come to Port Loko.
Vice President Jalloh thank NASSIT for accepting to build a Modern office in Port Loko. He said they will give more lands to NASSIT to build low cost houses and NASSIT homes for retired staffs.
He revealed that the government is about to secure ten thousand acres of land to build a very expensive city in the Kafu-Bullom Chiefdom.
He ended by promising to personally monitor the building work.
