Maritime Traffic Overseers, Regional Managers and Dispatch Riders Receive New Mobility Support

The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) has handed over 15 motorbikes to Maritime Traffic Overseers, Regional Managers and Dispatch Riders as part of efforts to strengthen field operations and improve mobility across the country.

The new motorbikes are expected to support officers in carrying out maritime monitoring, inspections, stakeholder engagement, reporting and timely responses, particularly in districts and hard-to-reach communities.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, SLMA Executive Director, Dr. Daniel B. Kaitibi, called on the beneficiaries to take good care of the assets and use them strictly for their intended purpose.

“These motorbikes are operational assets entrusted to our officers to enable them to perform their duties more effectively,” Dr. Kaitibi said, urging beneficiaries to use them responsibly, maintain them properly and ensure accountability.

The handover is part of SLMA’s broader efforts to equip its field personnel with the necessary resources to effectively deliver on the Administration’s mandate.

For those working directly in the field, the importance of the new motorbikes cannot be overstated.

Ibrahim Sorie Kamara, Regional Manager, Western Area Urban, said the new mobility support would make a significant difference in reaching communities and conducting field activities.

“Nobody understands the importance of these bikes better than we, the end users, do. We cannot work in hard-to-reach areas if we do not have these,” he said.

He added that conducting spot checks in communities has often been costly and challenging, noting that the motorbikes would help reduce some of the difficulties faced by field officers.

The initiative is expected to improve the movement of SLMA personnel and strengthen maritime monitoring, safety, security and service delivery across Sierra Leone.
