The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has announced new procedures for importers and exporters seeking to exit containers from the Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Freetown on Sundays.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, August 27, 2026, the NRA said the measure follows resolutions reached during the Chief Minister’s Problem Solving Sessions held in July 2026.

Under the new arrangement, only importers and exporters intending to exit containers from the Queen Elizabeth II Quay on Sundays are required to notify the Commissioner General of the NRA in writing at least 48 hours before the scheduled Sunday operation.

The notification must include a comprehensive list of the containers intended for exit, along with supporting documents to facilitate the review, reconciliation and reporting process.

The required documents include Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Payment Receipts, Release Orders and declaration references.

The NRA strongly advised importers, exporters, trade operators, port users, clearing and forwarding agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to submit their notifications no later than 12:00 p.m. on the Friday preceding the Sunday scheduled for operations.

The Authority further stated that priority would be given to importers and exporters with a minimum of 30 containers.

According to the notice, Sunday container exit operations at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay will run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The NRA urged all affected stakeholders to comply with the procedures and submit complete documentation within the stipulated timeframe to ensure timely review and approval of Sunday container exit requests.
