Sierra Leonean lawmaker and former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, has been honoured with a prestigious award during the 25th Anniversary Commemoration of the ECOWAS Parliament, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
The award recognizes Dr. Tunis’s outstanding contributions to parliamentary diplomacy, regional integration, and people-centered governance within the ECOWAS Community. His leadership over the years has played a crucial role in strengthening dialogue, fostering cooperation among member states, and advancing the Parliament’s mandate to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development across West Africa.
In his remarks, Dr. Tunis dedicated the award to all those working to build a more unified region.

“This recognition is a testament to the collective efforts of all who believe in the power of regional cooperation,” he said. “As we mark 25 years of ECOWAS Parliament, we must continue to strengthen partnerships and deliver on our shared vision for a united and prosperous region.
The Silver Jubilee celebration brought together former Heads of State, Speakers of national parliaments, and key policymakers from across the continent, reaffirming ECOWAS’s commitment to deepening integration and improving governance within the sub-region.

Reflecting on the honour, Dr. Tunis emphasized the pride he feels in representing Sierra Leone at the regional level.
“For me, nothing compares to the honor of representing Sierra Leone,” he said. “Every time I stand for our beloved nation, I carry the strength of our people, the beauty of our land, and the hope of our future.
May Allah bless Sierra Leone, guide our Leader His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, and guide us toward more greatness.”
Dr. Tunis’s recognition adds to Sierra Leone’s growing prominence in regional affairs, reinforcing the country’s contributions to democratic governance and institutional development within ECOWAS.
