Opposition Member of Parliament, Hon. Aminata Sesay of Portloko District, has strongly criticized the Bio-led government, claiming its flagship Feed Salone Programme has worsened food insecurity across Sierra Leone.

Speaking on Liberty TV’s Morning Breakfast Show, Hon. Sesay said the government has failed to deliver on its promises to improve food production, leaving millions of citizens struggling to afford basic food items.

Citing a recent World Food Programme (WFP) assessment, she highlighted that 82 percent of Sierra Leoneans are currently facing food insecurity, a figure she described as alarming for a nation that claims to be promoting agricultural growth.

She also referenced the Torma Bum agricultural project, launched in 2021, claiming that after years of investment, there has been no meaningful harvest to justify government spending.

Hon. Sesay further addressed the recent drop in the price of a bag of rice, explaining that the reduction resulted from pressure on importers rather than improved domestic production.

Concluding her remarks, Hon. Sesay urged the government to acknowledge the failures of Feed Salone and adopt more practical solutions to reduce hunger while supporting local farmers.
