Marampa Mines Limited Boosts SL Women’s Premier League with $150,000 Donation

In a landmark move for women’s football in Sierra Leone, Marampa Mines Limited (MML) has donated $150,000 to the Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League (SLWPL), marking the largest corporate sponsorship ever directed toward women’s football in the country.

The historic sponsorship agreement, secured by SLFA President Babadi Kamara, was officially unveiled at the SLFA Secretariat in Freetown, signaling a major boost for the 2025/26 SL Women’s Premier League season and the continued development of women’s football nationwide.

At the ceremony, Graig Dean, Chairman of Marampa Mines Limited, expressed pride in partnering with the SLFA, describing the sponsorship as a long-term commitment to developing women’s football beyond a single season. “We are excited to support the growth and professionalization of women’s football in Sierra Leone,” Dean said.

The Mining Guru, Graig Dean further revealed that that the company is very pleased in partnering with the SLFA under President Kamara’s leadership, He emphasized that MML’s support goes beyond a single season, reaffirming their intent to stand with the SLFA in developing the women’s game.

Chairman Graig Dean also disclosed his love for Sierra Leone and the people of Sierra Leone that is why his company has invested over 500 million dollars in mines development in Sierra Leone.

President Kamara thanked MML for their generosity, noting that the funding would be fully utilized to strengthen the women’s league.

“This partnership is more than financial support; it symbolizes women’s empowerment and national unity,” he stated. He also highlighted the recent triumphs of the Sierra Leone U17 and Senior Women’s National Teams, both winners of the 2025 WAFU Women’s Championship, emphasizing that MML’s support will further solidify the foundation of the women’s game in the country.

Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima, commended the initiative, saying the partnership demonstrates how the private sector can play a pivotal role in sports development. “Marampa Mines is not only here to mine resources but to help build Sierra Leone,” she remarked.

The event saw the attendance of key stakeholders, including SLFA Vice President 2 Prince Saquee, NSA Deputy Executive Director Dr. Abdulrahman Swarray, and Women’s League Chairperson Madam Rachael Pessima.

Highlights of the ceremony included the presentation of a $150,000 mock cheque, the official signing of the sponsorship agreement, and President Kamara presenting the national team jersey to MML Chairman Graig Dean, officially naming him an Ambassador for the Sierra Leone Football Association.

The ceremony concluded with heartfelt thanks from Sierra Queens and FC Kallon captain Sarah Bangura, who expressed deep appreciation to President Kamara and Marampa Mines for their steadfast support of women’s football in Sierra Leone.

The sponsorship promises to elevate the SL Women’s Premier League to new heights, empowering female athletes and inspiring the next generation of women footballers across the country.
