The Sierra Leone Police have launched a manhunt for Musa Dumbuya, a resident of Mount Aureol, who is wanted in connection with the alleged murder of a community youth and involvement in a homosexual act both considered serious offences under Sierra Leonean law.
According to police sources, the incident took place on Saturday, 4th January 2025, at approximately 8:47 p.m., at 1C Upper Dan Street, off Mount Aureol in Freetown. Musa Dumbuya, who resides at 16 Dan Lane, was reportedly caught in a homosexual act with his partner, Foday Kamara, by community members.
Eyewitnesses say a group of irate youths stormed the residence after learning of the act, which they claimed violated community norms and national laws. During the confrontation, Dumbuya allegedly resisted and, in the struggle, struck one of the youths—identified as Yayah Dumbuya. The victim collapsed and later died from injuries sustained during the altercation.
By the time police arrived at the scene, both Musa Dumbuya and Foday Kamara had fled. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
The case has further shocked the community after it emerged that Musa Dumbuya is the son of a respected Muslim religious leader (Imam) who leads prayers at a local mosque. The revelation has sparked outrage among residents, particularly given the conservative nature of the community and the high moral expectations placed on religious families.
Police have intensified their search efforts and are urging the public to assist in locating the suspect. A reward is being offered for credible information leading to his arrest.
