Senior Journalist Asmieu Bah Appointed Deputy Director General of SLBC

Senior journalist and seasoned television presenter Mohamed Asmieu Bah has been appointed as the Deputy Director General of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), filling a vacancy left by former Deputy Director General Almamy Lahai Kamara, whose four-year term recently ended.

Asmieu Bah’s appointment marks a significant career milestone for the media professional, who has been a prominent figure in Sierra Leone’s media landscape for over two decades.

Having started his career as a cub reporter, Bah steadily rose through the ranks, taking on roles as a presenter, news editor, and deputy media director at the SLBC.

His deep knowledge of journalism, coupled with his hands-on experience, has made him an integral part of the institution’s growth and evolution from the days of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service (SLBS) to its current form.In addition to his role at SLBC, Bah has contributed to the broader media landscape as the National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) from 2019 to 2022.

He has been a strong advocate for media development in the country and has played a crucial role in mentoring and training young journalists.Asmieu Bah’s academic and professional background further bolsters his credentials.

He was part of the 2021/2022 Hubert Humphrey Fellowship program at Arizona State University, where he earned certification in Public Relations, Strategic, and Crisis Communications.

His portfolio also includes Leadership and Crisis Training from Syracuse University, positioning him as a well-rounded media executive with expertise in investigative journalism and crisis management.

The newly appointed Deputy Director General is widely respected for his dedication to shaping Sierra Leone’s media landscape. His leadership is expected to steer the SLBC towards further advancements, particularly in training future generations of media professionals.

Asmieu Bah is a married father of children and remains committed to using his new role to enhance the role of public broadcasting in Sierra Leone.
