Three New Members of Parliament Takes Oath of Office

The Parliament of Sierra Leone on Thursday 23/05/2024 2024, swore in three Members of Parliament after they subscribed to the oath of office under the Third Schedule of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No. 6 of 1991)
Pursuant to Section 83 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No. 6 of 1991), in tandem with Standing Orders 1 Paragraph A of the Rules of Procedures, the following MPs resumed office:

  1. Hon. Moses Andrew Edwin from Bonthe District
  2. Hon. Paramount Chief Alameen Kanneh from Kenema District and
  3. Hon. Paramount Chief Saffa M. Tamu from Pujehun District.

The Director General of Parliament, Mrs. Finda F. Fraser, administered the oath and also gave the MPs the Constitution of Sierra Leone, the Standing Orders of Parliament and the Parliamentary Prayers.
Subscribing and signing the oath of office, the PCMPs and an MP said in unison that they will bear true faith and allegiance to the Republic of Sierra Leone as by law established, that they will uphold and defend the Constitution of Sierra Leone, and that they will faithfully discharge the duties of a Member of Parliament.

It could be recalled that the vacancy of Hon. Moses Edwin came in the wake of the ascendancy of Hon. Solomon Segepoh Thomas, the former Deputy Speaker and MP from Bonthe District, to the position of Speaker of Parliament, in light of the Proportional Representation requirement. The deaths of Hon. P. C. Victor Kebbie of Pujehun District and Hon. P. C. Fabba of Kenema District created vacancies for the two Paramount Chiefs.

After subscribing to the oath of office, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Solomon Segepoh Thomas congratulated the new Members of Parliament and wished them well.

Kamara was called up to Sierra Leone’s squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which began in January 2022.
He scored his first international goal with a “magnificent left-footed strike” in a 2–2 draw with Ivory Coast in Sierra Leone’s second group match on 16 January 2022. He appeared in their third group match as they were eliminated from the competition after a 1–0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea.
