The Prevention Department of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has presented a Report to the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) following the conduct of a review on practices and procedures of the institution. The presentation took place in the Conference Room of NATCOM, Hill Station, in Freetown, on Thursday 15th September, 2022.
As enshrined in Section 7 (a) (b) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2008 as amended in 2019, the ACC is mandated to review practices and procedures of any public body in order to identify policy gaps, give recommendations and monitor systems and policy recommendations.
Over the years, the Department has reviewed systems and policies of different MDAs in a bid to make them more effective, efficient and resistant to corruption.
The objective of the review was to promote effectiveness, efficiency, and improve service delivery and performance in the organisation.
The Director of Prevention Department, ACC, Rashid BarbarTuray, gave an overview of the meeting and a synopsis of how the review was conducted. According to him, the review highlights findings, recommendations and management responses.
He thanked staff of NATCOM for their cooperation during the review exercise. He encouraged them to comply with and implement all the review recommendations contained in the Report.
The Director-General of NATCOM, Daniel Kaitibi, applauded the work of the ACC and the review team. He made a commitment to thoroughly read the report and implement its recommendations, adding that this will also help them in their restructuring process.
The formal presentation of the Report to the Management of NATCOM climaxed the event.
NATCOM, which was established by an Act of Parliament in 2006 to regulate the telecoms sector in Sierra Leone, is also charged to protect consumers’ interest and ensure fair competition among service providers. It has been working to establish effective, sound and dynamic licensing regime responsive to the industry’s demands.
