Isata Mahoi, the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs of Sierra Leone, joined international women leaders at the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) to discuss strategies for peace, gender equality, and global solidarity.

The CSW, a pivotal platform within the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), convenes governments, international organizations, and NGOs annually at the UN Headquarters to exchange policy practices aimed at empowering women and advancing their rights. This year’s session centered on the theme of ‘Accelerating the empowerment of all women and girls through gender-responsive approaches to ending poverty, strengthening institutions, and financing.’

During the CSW, Isata Mahoi engaged in meaningful discussions with Sujin Park, Regional Director of Global Region 5 at the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG). They delved into IWPG’s initiatives, particularly focusing on ‘Women’s Peace Education’ and the ‘Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW),’ essential frameworks for achieving global peace.

Expressing her commitment to advocating for peace, Isata Mahoi pledged to promote the importance of the DPCW to leaders in Sierra Leone, including future presidents. She affirmed her support for IWPG’s peace activities, recognizing the vital role of collaboration in fostering a culture of peace.

Furthermore, Isata Mahoi participated in discussions with Aruna Naik, CEO of the India Development Foundation (IDF), where IWPG’s annual ‘Peace and Love Drawing Competition’ was introduced. Demonstrating keen interest in IWPG’s peace-building efforts, Aruna Naik expressed her intention to contribute voluntarily as a member, highlighting the significance of global women’s solidarity in promoting peace and addressing gender inequality.

Sujin Park, reflecting on the CSW experience, expressed pride in IWPG’s international status and emphasized the importance of such platforms in fostering growth as global activists.

IWPG, a registered international women’s NGO, operates worldwide with a network of over 660 partner organizations, striving for sustainable world peace through advocacy, education, and collaboration. Their active engagement in promoting solidarity, peace culture, and legal frameworks underscores their commitment to global peace-building efforts.
