Team Martina has welcomed the election of a new Caretaker Body to oversee the affairs of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), describing the development as an important step towards restoring stability and democratic governance within the Association.
In a statement issued by Martina Baindu Egbenda, Team Martina congratulated members of the newly elected Caretaker Body and wished them wisdom, impartiality and success as they undertake their transitional responsibilities.
The team also expressed appreciation to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, in his capacity as Titular Head of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, for presiding over the Extraordinary General Meeting.
According to Team Martina, his leadership contributed to a peaceful and orderly process that has paved the way for the restoration of democratic governance within the Association.
The team further acknowledged the service of the outgoing Executive of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, thanking its members for the time and effort devoted to the affairs of the Association.
Team Martina said it hopes the lessons from recent months will help guide the Association towards becoming more united, transparent, consultative and accountable to its membership.
The newly elected Caretaker Body, the statement noted, now has a clear mandate to administer the affairs of the Association during the transitional period and facilitate free, fair, credible and transparent elections.
Team Martina stressed that the electoral process must be conducted in strict compliance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association, the Legal Practitioners Act, and the Orders of the High Court dated July 23, 2026.
“Team Martina remains committed to the rule of law, institutional reform, and the unity of our Association,” the statement said, pledging full cooperation with every lawful effort aimed at restoring democratic governance within the Bar.
The team also urged the Caretaker Body to carry out its responsibilities with independence, transparency and fairness to ensure that members have confidence in the electoral process.
Team Martina concluded by thanking supporters and the wider membership of the Bar for their patience, resilience and commitment throughout the period, while expressing optimism that the ongoing efforts will lead to a stronger, more united and accountable Sierra Leone Bar Association.
