The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), in partnership with FIFA, has intensified preparations for the launch of the country’s first comprehensive Women’s Football Strategy, aimed at creating a sustainable pathway for the growth and development of women’s football.

As part of the preparations, FIFA Women’s Football Technical Expert, Thuba Sibanda, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, held a consultative virtual meeting with Heads of Departments at the SLFA Board Room, Football Academy in Kingtom.

The session, conducted via Zoom, focused on developing a coordinated roadmap for the successful implementation of the strategy. It was coordinated by SLFA Head of Women’s Football, Elizabeth Kailey, and attended by SLFA General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh and Deputy General Secretary Ishmail Saidu Kanu Esq.

The engagement followed the successful completion of nationwide regional consultations with female football stakeholders, whose contributions have helped shape the strategy designed to provide a clear framework for the sustainable advancement of women’s football in Sierra Leone.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of collaboration among various SLFA departments in ensuring the effective rollout of the strategy. Departments including Media and Marketing, Safeguarding, Competitions, Safety and Security, Technical, Referees, Events and Protocol, Transfer Management System (TMS), Finance, and Procurement are expected to play key roles in its implementation.

The Sierra Leone Women’s Football Strategy is expected to be officially launched in September 2026, representing a major milestone in the SLFA’s continued efforts, alongside FIFA, to expand opportunities for women and girls to participate, develop, and excel in football across the country.
