The Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) has written to Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, urging his immediate intervention over delays in the payment of government school fee subsidies.

In a reminder addressed to the Vice President, the union recalled that one of the key resolutions reached during the nationwide teachers’ strike in September 2025 was the settlement of backlog fee subsidies for the 2024/2025 academic year, as well as payment for the first term of the 2025/2026 school year.

The SLTU acknowledged the Vice President’s role in mediating the impasse that led to teachers returning to classrooms, noting that his office played a significant part in restoring calm to the education sector, even though some outstanding issues remain unresolved.

However, the union expressed disappointment that subsidies for the second and third terms for Junior Secondary and Primary Schools for the current academic year have still not been paid, despite assurances reportedly given by the Government through the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education.

According to the union, the Joint Committee established to address the outstanding issues has also failed to reconvene since its inaugural meeting.

The teachers’ body warned that schools are already in the third term, with many administrators struggling to sustain effective teaching and learning due to a lack of essential government support and resources.

The SLTU expressed hope that the Vice President will intervene promptly to ensure the release of the outstanding subsidies and address the lingering concerns affecting schools across the country.
