A Parliamentary Select Committee has visited the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) to assess the Authority’s productivity, achievements and contribution to national development.

The delegation, led by the Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, and comprising senior Members of Parliament, was received by SLPHA Director General, Yankuba Askia Bio.

During the engagement, the Director General highlighted key achievements recorded by the Authority in recent years, including its financial contributions to the Government of Sierra Leone.

According to Bio, SLPHA transferred a total of US$19 million to the Government over the past three years, comprising US$4 million in 2023, US$7 million in 2024 and US$8 million in 2025.

He also highlighted improvements in berth infrastructure, which have enhanced the operational capacity of the Port and enabled larger vessels, including Panamax vessels, to call at the facility.

Members of Parliament commended the management and staff of SLPHA for the progress made, while stressing the need for the Authority to consistently communicate its activities, achievements and contributions to national development.

The visit concluded with a tour of the port facilities, followed by a visit to the proposed Kent and Banana Island Seaport, where the delegation was briefed on the proposed development.
