The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) has reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening international educational partnerships during a high-level engagement with a delegation from the African American Male Education Network and Development (A2MEND) on 24th June 2026.

Welcoming the delegation, Minister Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie described the visit as an important opportunity to deepen collaboration in education, youth empowerment, research, and cultural exchange between Sierra Leone, Africa, and the United States. She noted that the government continues to prioritize human capital development through sustained investment in the education sector.

Deputy Minister Sarjoh Aziz Kamara outlined ongoing reforms aimed at expanding technical and vocational education, including plans to establish community colleges across the country and strengthen skills training in areas such as agro-processing and renewable energy. He emphasized that practical, industry-focused education remains key to improving youth employability and supporting national development.

The Senior Permanent Secretary, Sheick Kargbo, highlighted the importance of academic research into the historical and cultural links between Africa and the Americas, noting its relevance in strengthening global understanding and cooperation.

Director of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Abdul Senesie, also called for stronger alignment between national educational initiatives and continental development frameworks, particularly the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, A2MEND Executive Director Dr. Erin Vines outlined the organization’s work in mentoring and developing Black male students through leadership training, scholarships, and study-abroad opportunities. She said reconnecting people of African descent with their cultural heritage remains central to A2MEND’s mission, while also strengthening ties between Africa and the diaspora.

The delegation is expected to visit key government institutions, universities, and historical sites across Sierra Leone as part of efforts to explore future partnerships in education and development.

The engagement concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to expanding collaboration in education, leadership development, research, cultural exchange, and youth empowerment.
