Hon. Alice Konya Sandy Esq., the youngest Member of Parliament in Sierra Leone’s Parliament, has provided meals for hundreds of pupils who sat the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) in Constituency 016, Kenema District.
The support was extended on Saturday, May 9, 2026, benefiting more than 800 candidates from over 36 primary schools across the constituency. The pupils wrote their examinations at four designated centres: Kaisamba Memorial School in Nekabo, Apex Secondary School in Hangha, National Islamic Primary School in Largo, and KMDEC Secondary School in Talia.
The initiative was widely welcomed by parents, teachers, and community members, many of whom said the gesture helped ease the burden on families and ensured that pupils remained focused and comfortable during the examination period.
Education stakeholders in the constituency described the intervention as timely, noting that providing food during a long examination exercise can help pupils maintain concentration and energy throughout the day.
Speaking during the exercise, Head Teacher of Ansarul Islamic Primary School Hangha, Mr. Mustapha Fabai, commended Hon. Sandy for what he described as her continued commitment to the development of education in the constituency.
He said the Member of Parliament has over the years supported schools through learning materials, encouragement programmes, and other educational interventions.
The Head Mistress of National Islamic Primary School Largo, Miss Wuya Gandi, also praised the initiative, describing it as a meaningful contribution to both pupils and parents during the examination season.
She noted that many parents had expressed appreciation, especially as the support reduced the challenge of providing meals for children during the exams.
Several parents who spoke at the centres thanked the lawmaker for maintaining close ties with grassroots communities and for consistently supporting vulnerable families through practical initiatives.
Pupils who benefited from the programme also expressed gratitude, describing the gesture as motivating during one of the most important academic stages of their primary education.
Hon. Alice Konya Sandy has become known in Constituency 016 for her focus on education, youth empowerment, and community welfare, with residents saying the latest intervention further demonstrates her commitment to investing in the future of children in Kenema District.
