Mariatu Kargbo Wins China Africa Short Video Competition

The Black Pearl of China, Sierra Leone’s Mariatu Kargbo has won China Africa Short Video Competition in Beijing.

Presenting the award was Sierra Leone Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina.

The Working hand in hand for a shared future held a fruitful award ceremony on the 2nd China Africa short video competition which was held at three venues respectively, China Foreign Culture Bureau in Beijing, South Africa and Senegal on the 8th December 2020.

Prizes were awarded for first, second and third position in all categories. 

The Black Pearl of China, Maria Kargbo said China and Africa should continue to tell stories of common epidemic resistance, promote exchanges among young people and let stories of friendship between China and Africa be handed down from generation to generation.

Maria, an orphan from an early age, came to China from Sierra Leone to achieve greener pastures and has been working very hard to promote friendship between China and Africa.

She is willing to continue her efforts for the friendship and development of China and Africa through effective communication of cultural friendship between China and Africa.

Maria loves China and Africa and the people which she described as kind, friendly and peaceful.

“This award is for all of us. God is good all the time. Xiexie ni zhongguo Wo ai ni zhongguo. I’ll continue to show the big love and unity of a proud African (Africa Chinese) black girl. Always smile.” She told her audience after the award.

The Black Pearl of China thanked the organizers, China Bureau of Foreign Culture, China African People’s Friendship Association, Beijing Weekly, China Network, South African Independent Media and the Senegalese portal SENEWEB co-sponsored.

She also thanked the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign countries, and the CCTV French Channel team and Sister Song.

She thanked her fans that voted and support her throughout the process and a special thanks to the Chinese Government, people of Sierra Leone for the love and support they showed her over the years. 

Sierra Leone Ambassador to China Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina while presenting the award to The Black Pearl of China congratulated her for the tremendous work in and out of China.

Ambassador Ndomahina said Maria has made Sierra Leone proud and that he is aware of the unrelenting effort of the lady to lift the country’s high.

Speeches were delivered by Gao Anming, Deputy Director of the Chinese Bureau of Foreign Culture and Culture, and Lin Yi, Executive Vice President of the Chinese People’s Friendship Association among others.
