The Lawyers’ Society has reacted to the disruption of the Sierra Leone Bar Association’s (SLBA) 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), following the suspension of proceedings amid rising tensions at the venue.

In a brief statement issued after the disruption, the Lawyers’ Society shared a biblical message from Exodus 14:14, stating: “The LORD will fight for you, while you hold your peace.”

The statement comes as lawyers gathered for the much-anticipated SLBA AGM, which was expected to include leadership elections and other key decisions concerning the future direction of the Association.

The Lawyers’ Society was established following the outcome of the 2024 SLBA Annual General Meeting, which was strongly contested by some members of the legal profession.

The disputed election, which resulted in the election of Madam Tuma Adama Jabbie as President of the Bar, triggered disagreements among sections of the legal community and subsequently led to the formation of the Lawyers’ Society.

The group’s latest reaction has added to the growing discussions surrounding the current state of affairs within the SLBA, as members await further communication on the rescheduling of the AGM and the next steps for the Association.
