Responding to President Julius Maada Bio’s call for citizens to engage in prayers to mark Sierra Leone’s 63rd independence anniversary, prominent lawyer Ady Macauley Esq has delivered a stark criticism.

Macauley emphasized that the nation does not lack prayers, as Sierra Leoneans already pray collectively more than many successful nations in Africa. Instead, he pointed out the urgent need for effective leadership dedicated to the country’s development and the welfare of its people.

He highlighted the crucial role of visionary leadership and emphasized that prayers alone cannot solve the nation’s pressing issues such as the lack of electricity, water, and good governance. Macauley referenced the United States Embassy in Freetown’s offer to provide sustainable electricity, contingent upon reforms in governance and electoral practices.

Macauley further underscored the responsibility of Sierra Leoneans to elect leaders based on merit rather than tribal, regional, or selfish considerations. He urged citizens to exercise their agency and choose leaders who can lead the nation towards prosperity.

In concluding his remarks, Macauley invoked a proverb, emphasizing that the quality of leadership determines the outcome of governance and development.

As Sierra Leone commemorates its independence, Macauley’s critique serves as a reminder of the importance of accountable and visionary leadership in steering the nation towards progress and prosperity.
