SLFA Hosts WAFU-A Competition Management Workshop in Freetown

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), in collaboration with the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone A, has concluded a three-day competition management workshop in Freetown.

The training brought together sixteen participants from nine WAFU member countries, including Sierra Leone.

Sessions focused on key areas such as match organisation, match supervision, and match reporting, aimed at strengthening competition standards across the region.

Speaking at the certification ceremony at Hotel Bamoi, SLFA President Babadi Kamara described the workshop as a mark of confidence in his leadership and expressed appreciation to WAFU-A and the Government of Sierra Leone for their support.

He noted that football is becoming increasingly competitive and stressed the need for continuous learning and collaboration within the WAFU zone.

The SLFA boss mentioned the cultural and historical ties among WAFU countries, describing the region as one family.

He encouraged participants to maintain strong relationships beyond football and to apply the knowledge gained by organising similar trainings in their respective federations.

He also pointed to Senegal’s progress in football as a benchmark for others in the region.

WAFU President Lamin Kabba Bajo thanked the Government of Sierra Leone and the SLFA for hosting the workshop, while extending greetings to the Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima.

He emphasised the importance of continuous capacity building, noting that football is evolving rapidly and administrators must keep pace.

President Bajo described the competitions department as a vital part of any football association and said such trainings are essential to improving the quality and organisation of competitions in West Africa.

He also reaffirmed WAFU A’s commitment to supporting member associations in organising similar programmes.

The workshop ended with the presentation of certificates to participants and group photographs to mark the occasion.
