Former Minister of Youth Affairs, Mohamed Bangura, has made a return to public service following his appointment as Deputy Director General (Administration and Finance) of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).

His appointment was announced by President Julius Maada Bio in a public notice issued by State House as part of a series of new government appointments and institutional leadership changes. The announcement, signed by the Secretary to the President, Barba B. Fortune, stated that the appointment is subject to parliamentary approval where applicable.

Bangura’s appointment marks a significant comeback to government after previously serving as Minister of Youth Affairs, where he was involved in implementing youth development programmes and policies aimed at empowering young people across Sierra Leone.

At NASSIT, he will serve as Deputy Director General (Administration and Finance), a key executive position responsible for supporting the management of the Trust’s administrative and financial operations. He will work alongside the newly appointed Director General, Chernor Mamoud Jalloh, under the leadership of the newly constituted Board of Trustees, chaired by Jenneh Jabati.

The appointment forms part of a broader restructuring of NASSIT’s leadership announced by President Bio. The changes are aimed at strengthening the management of the country’s social security institution, which is responsible for administering pension and social security benefits for workers in Sierra Leone.

Bangura’s return to public office is expected to attract considerable public interest, given his previous role in government and his re-emergence in a senior leadership position within one of the country’s most important public institutions.

The newly appointed officials are expected to undergo parliamentary scrutiny before formally assuming their respective duties.
