In a significant development that is geared towards promoting sports and unity in African nations, FIFA Council member, Madam Isha Johansen, has paid a courtesy visit to the Mano River Union (MRU) Ambassador, Ambassador Maria Harrison, in Freetown on November 3rd, 2023.

Building upon their previous initiative, Johansen led a FIFA team to the Mano River Union countries with the aim of initiating the construction of a Peace Village. This visionary project seeks to harness the power of sports to promote harmony and solidarity among African nations. During their previous visit, Johansen and her team had conducted a thorough site inspection alongside experienced engineers, ensuring that the groundwork for the Peace Village was laid out meticulously.

Johansen’s recent visit to the MRU Ambassador is a crucial follow-up, emphasizing the importance of successful implementation for the Peace Village project. Acknowledging Johansen’s commitment and efforts, Ambassador Maria Harrison expressed her sincere gratitude for the visit and reiterated the MRU’s unwavering support in constructing this monumental undertaking. Ambassador Harrison in her speech few weeks back at Malema, underscored   the Mano River Union countries’ dedication to utilizing football as a powerful tool in fostering unity and promoting the values of peace and cooperation. The Peace Village, as an embodiment of these shared aspirations, seeks to create a nurturing and inclusive environment for athletes, spectators, and communities at large.

The visit by Madam Isha Johansen to the MRU Ambassador was one of few potential international collaborations including the UNDP where she held fruitful discussion with the new UNDP country Rep.
