In a landmark move that has brought relief and renewed hope to hundreds of families across the country, the Honourable Minister of Energy, Cyril Arnold Grant, has fulfilled his promise to permanently absorb 50% of contract staff at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority nationwide.

The announcement marks the fulfillment of a commitment the Minister made upon assuming office — to prioritize the welfare of the men and women who have kept Sierra Leone’s electricity distribution system running, often for years, without job security.

The absorption cuts across every department and every region. From technical crews in the field to customer service and administrative staff, the decision recognizes decades of service by loyal employees who have remained committed to EDSA despite the uncertainties of contract work.

Speaking to the staff, Minister Grant was direct and appreciative. He reminded them that their work is at the heart of national development.
“Energy is the backbone of His Excellency President Bio’s service delivery mantra,” he said. “Without electricity, there is no progress. And without you, there is no electricity. That is why I made this promise, and that is why I am here today to fulfill it.”

He urged them to see this moment not just as a reward, but as a call to greater responsibility. He charged them to approach their work with diligence, commitment, and professionalism, and to serve the people of Sierra Leone with pride and dedication.

The response from staff was immediate and emotional. Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Denis Ivan Johnson of the Distribution, Technical and Service Department expressed deep gratitude to the Minister and to the Government. For many, this decision ends years of waiting.
“We have served this institution for a long time,” Mr. Johnson said. “Today we feel seen, we feel valued, and we promise to give back with even more commitment.”

This intervention by the Ministry of Energy is part of a broader effort to strengthen institutions, improve morale, and ensure that the people who deliver essential services are supported and secured. It is expected to boost productivity, reduce staff turnover, and ultimately lead to better service delivery for electricity consumers across the country.

With this action, Minister Cyril Arnold Grant has not only kept his word, but has also sent a clear message: that the people who power this nation deserve dignity, stability, and respect.

With the energy sector and the Feed Salone agenda being inextricably linked, reforms continue across the sector.
