Binta Barrie Set to Win Miss FBC

Binta Barrie, one of the most outstanding students studying Law at the law department at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone is set to win Miss Fourah Bay College tomorrow at the prestigious Bintumani Conference Centre in Freetown.

Binta Barrie who has been the favourite contestants for Miss FBC started her educational voyage at the Modern Elementary School, where she took her first steps toward academic excellence. It was there that the seeds of curiosity and a thirst for knowledge were sown, and ever since she progressed to Modern High School, starting from Junior Secondary School (JSS1) to Senior Secondary School (SSS1) and later to the SOS Hermann Gmeiner school.

In 2018, the contestant enrolled at Fourah Bay College to pursue a degree in Mass Communications. Ever since she enrolled, the studies have opened up Binta’s eyes to a world of communication theory, media analysis, and the power of storytelling. However, her insatiable appetite for learning has led her to a pivotal decision in 2019 to switch to reading Law at the law department with an aim of recognizing the potential to effect profound change through the legal system.

Speaking to the press, Binta said that a beauty pageant is not solely about physical appearance and intelligence; it serves as a platform for women like Binta to showcase the abilities and talents one possess and making a positive contribution to society. Through pageantry, Binta added that she has come to understand that these events aren’t just about selecting the most beautiful women; but they focus on personalities, patience, collaboration, and self-confidence.

She furthered that becoming a queen through these competitions empowers organizations to drive positive change in society and support those with fewer resources. Pageantry imparts crucial life skills to young women with confidence being a valuable asset. 

Binta asserted that “I radiate confidence and I am committed to being a catalyst for positive change in our society”. 

While many people harbor the fear of public speaking, Binta told Owl Newspaper that entering a beauty pageant provides them with opportunities to address large audiences regularly, ultimately nurturing confidence and stage presence. 

Memunatu Njai, a student of the Social Sciences said that she is optimistic that Binta possess all the qualities to make her win and become Miss FBC in this contest.

 Isatu Sankoh, another student from the Faculty of Arts added that Binta is very fluent and composed to face the competition with ease and confidence to sail through.

An experienced pageant expert said Binta has the potentials not only to win Miss FBC but Miss University Sierra Leone and can also represent Sierra Leone internationally. She added that the outcome of this contest has a long effect to beauty pageantry in Sierra Leone.
