As She Showcases Sierra Leone… TOURISM MINISTER EXCELS IN PORTUGAL

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Rd. Memuntu Pratt led a delegation to Portugal to showcase the country’s tourism potentials and to forge links with tourism promoters in that country.

Her delegation includes the Director of Tourism and the General Manager of the National Tourist Board, Fatmata Kromah to the first edition of one of the biggest conferences on sustainable tourism in Portugal.

The “Évora Forum – A World For Travel” took place on September 16th and 17th, 2021, at the University of Évora and brought together the main stakeholders of the public and private sectors of the tourism industry, with the purpose of raising awareness of the changes of the sector.

More than 140 international speakers were present at the conference including Rita Marques (Secretary of State for Tourism in Portugal), Zurab Pololikashvili (Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization) and Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne (Secretary of State for Tourism in France).

This first edition of the event focused on the key components of the tourism industry – for which change is mandatory – identifying the steps that will allow consolidating the solutions to be implemented.

Sustainability-related topics such as variations in the economic model, climate impact, environmental impact of tourism, coastal and maritime changes, as well as agricultural and carbon neutral policies were debated over the two days by recognized experts from different areas. These personalities met in Évora, for the first time, to jointly develop new ways of acting and establish commitments for the Tourism industry.

The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs for Sierra Leone participated in two panel discussion sessions on the topics, “Travel , Peacekeeper and  Smart Power” and “Tourism’s Positive Impact”.

It was determined that the fact that the forum was able to bring together more than 140 speakers of world reputation shows not only the resilience of the Travel and Tourism Sector, but also  commitment and dedication of its leaders to urgently solve problems that the world currently faces.

For Christian Delom, Secretary General of, “A World for Travel”, he said  “the travel industry has never had to deal with so much pressure, whether in relation to the environment, climate, technology, social responsibility, safety and to health risks, all simultaneously. This event, “A World for Travel – Évora Forum”, will pave the way for an inevitable transformation of the sector for the good of humanity.”

Évora Forum is organized by Eventiz Media Group, the largest French media group in the sector, in partnership with the Global Travel & Tourism Resilience Council and with the support of Turismo de Portugal, the OMT (World Tourism Organization) and the World Travel and Tourism Organization (WTTC).
