Renowned Lawyer Basita Michael has disassociated herself from the Legal and Law Reform Commission which she was serving as a very senior member.
In her letter sent to President Julius Maada Bio, she noted that she is very concerned and even disturbed over recent developments resulting to the suspension of Auditor General Mrs. Lara Taylor-Pearce and one of her deputies.
It is now crystically clear that her decision came about because the current SLPP Government does not want Mrs. Lara Taylor-Pearce to read out the 2020 Auditor General’s Report on the way and manner this governmernt has spent money in the year under review.
Basita belives that Lara has no case to answer because this erudite and incorruptible lady auditing this county’s financial expenditure has decided to opt out rather than face humiliation for doing the right thing.
Basita Michael is now challenging President Maada Bio and his government to come forward with charges because it is obvious that apart from making so much noise about Lara’s alleged ‘official misconduct’ and other mis-informed rubbish, they (SLPP Government) are yet to set up their so-called very questionable Tribunal to look into the affairs of Mrs. Lara Taylor-Pearce.
Basita believes that in the first place, the individuals named as members of the SLPP-Bio Tribunal are very questionable.
The long and short of all this is that even the international community is very concerned over the suspension of Mrs. Lara Taylor-Pearce and one of her deputies. The SLPP Government is yet to come out clearly about the reasons for her suspension and about when the so-called Tribunal will sit on her case.
