NRA Concludes Board Management Retreat 2020

The Revenue Authority has on Friday 27th November, 2020 and 28th November, 2020 held its Annual Board Management Retreat at the Companero Hotel and Lodge, Bureh Village along the Freetown Penninsular.

Dr. Tuma Adama Gento- Kamara is the Chair of the Board at NRA. In her opening statements, she emphasized the role of the Board which is to effectively deliver on its Revenue collection mandate to levels that conveniently finance the aspiring government expenditures at levels that facilitate trade to meet international standards. As an employee centered Board, a new terms and conditions of service along with a new HR and ICT policy have been approved to position the institution for the next phase of its development.

The Board Chairperson confidently asserted that in 2021, the NRA will seek to establish a befitting Revenue House to ease up accommodation problems for a corporate institution the calibre of NRA. Efforts are also being pursued for NRA to own property elsewhere in the country she said.

The Commissioner-General Dr. Samuel S. Jibao making statement

The Commissioner-General Dr. Samuel S. Jibao  in his statement focused on the challenges faced by the institution within the COVID- 19 pandemic noting the slight drop in Revenue as was targeted for. “The shock was however not severe to cause a complete breakdown of the institution’s operations” The NRA initially targeted Le 6.47 Trillion for 2020, a figure which was reduced by Le 1.1 Trillion affecting NRA budgeted income by Le 33 Billion. But the Covid-19 pandemic also delayed the implementation of reforms within the institution.

In his keynote address, Dr. John E. Tambi the Presidential advisor on Infrastructure in the Office of the President within the government of Sierra Leone, further noted that “no country has ever developed without infrastructure” and so are institutions, he underpinned.

“It is called transformative infrastructure development and that is the focus of the New Direction of His”It is called transformative infrastructure development and that is the focus of the New Direction of His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio where all sectors are involved he said.” The approach to such an Infrastructural initiatives is such that will cost government almost no amount of funds. This is why he is very impressed with the steps taken by the National Revenue Authority to focus on capital investments in a bid to ease up internal Infrastructural challenges. A lot of other issues bordering on the development of NRA.
