Kambia/Port Loko APC MPs, Other Political Leaders Endorse Samura Kamara

It was a closed door meeting which lasted for three hours but from it emerged excited faces of Members of Parliament (MPs) and other top political players from Port Loko and Kambia Districts. Among the group that converged in Lunsar on Saturday 19th September 2020, was veteran lawyer and politician, Frank Kargbo. Mr. Frank Kargbo  served as host of an event that would otherwise serve as a precursor to a unanimous endorsement of the candidacy of Dr Mathew Wilson Samura Kamara.

This is not the first of such high prifile endorsements of the man who is the clear front runner in the contest to lead the APC in the 2023 Presidential elections. Former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Joseph Sam Sesay, one of the 28 falagbearer candidates of the APC in the 2018 elections, also recently declared his support for Sierra Leone’s well – regarded technocrat.

On Saturday’s event, Hon. Abdul Kargbo for Constituency 077 in Port Loko District, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, explained that Dr. Samura Kamara, represents the best opportunity Sierra Leone needs to bring about the much needed change citizens have been yearning for. He says the oppression, intimidation, retrogression and hardship the country is experiencing under the current SLPP misdirection is comparable to a military styled dictatorship.

Hon. Kargbo underscored the fact that  the political leaderships of both districts are unanimous in their support and that the APC  cannot afford to lose the next elections because according him, the vast majority of Sierra Leoneans are already tired with the all- round poor performance of this regime. “Samura Kamara has served the country in top professional capacities with impeccable record of integrity and competence and he (currently) has the largest support (base) across the country”, Hon Kargbo stressed.

The MP from Port Loko was not the only representive who wants the APC to rally round Samura Kamara’s leadership. Hon Abdul Karim Kamara of constituency 059 in Kambia, was even more upbeat when he averred that; “The APC party is at the cross roads…. we cannot afford to make the mistakes of the past…..As Members of Parliament we are the front soldiers of party…..and I feel the party has not stood well before now….We must not repeat the 29 candidate scenario of 2018……we have spoken to our people and we have come to the conclusion that enough is enough in the APC…”

The young and vocal MP believes that with Dr. Samura Kamara, the APC will continue to attract more undecided voters until 2023. He added that in a military democracy like ours, it takes a battle tested candidate like Dr Samura Kamara to return the APC to State House. He also expressed strong optimism about Samura Kamara’s wealth of experience, professional background in develooment economics as well as years of service in the public sector institutions directing the country’s economic and foreign policies. Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara expressed confidence that Samura Kamara possesses the requisite skills, international goodwill, humility and temperament to quickly turn around the ailing Sierra Leonean economy, heal the wounds and unite the country once again.

“I can assure you that what we have agreed here today represents the wishes and aspirations of my constituents….” He maintained.

Political analysts agree that such endorsement is unprecedented and could well solidify Samura Kamara’s already strong position especially if and when APC MPs from other districts replicate this Port Loko/Kambia political ingenuity. “With this, Samura Kamara has the contest to lead the APC in 2023 well cut out for him”, one analyst emphasized.

  1. If All Africans can provide and support our current leaders in good faith will helped build the continent.
Politicians are always putting our heads together in pushing the continent backwards and that’s leading to absolute poverty and modern slavery.
Let’s put our brilliant ideas while working in our respective capacities rather than downgrading the elected leaders without providing solutions.
The politicians Sparks situation when out of power. They always presumed innocent until they are entrusted with power before they show their true colours.
Let’s put our good ideas when out of power by alerting the current leaders on their negative and positive gains.
Government is run by each and every citizen, passerby.

  3. I surport the idea of lining behind Dr. Samura Kamara as the Flag bearer for 2023 presidential election. But for the sake unity for the party and the Country and as a founding mamber of the party and for Democracy we should have elections for the flag bearer. Thank you.
