Two Arrested for 1,459 Mosquito Bed Nets in Kailahun

Following an effective operation on Friday, February 23rd, 2024, the Sierra Leone Police Operations team intercepted an Iveco Truck with registration number RG-AI-9222 at Bailu Crossing Point between Kailahun District and Guinea. The truck, found to be carrying twenty-nine (29) bundles of Mosquito Bed Nets, each containing fifty (50) bed nets, on its way to Guinea.

The swift action by the police not only prevented the illegal transportation of these essential health commodities but also led to the apprehension of two suspects involved in the illicit activity. Among the arrested individuals is the Storekeeper at the Government Hospital in Kailahun, raising questions about the source and intended use of the seized bed nets.

The authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation, with the two suspects cooperating with the police to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attempted smuggling. The incident is a wake-up call for authorities to be alert in safeguarding public health resources, particularly in regions where mosquito-borne diseases pose a significant threat.

The Sierra Leone Police Media Unit urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could compromise the well-being of the community.
