One of the leading mining companies that is effectively operating in the country, Cheng Li Mining Company has recently installed a modern alluvial plant in its area of operations within Diang Chiefdom in the Koinadugu District.
Timothy Kabba, the young and proactive Minister of Mines and Marine Resources, on the 26 February 2021, commissioned the alluvial plant of the company.
He expressed his thanks and appreciation to, Fassalay Tarawally, who is the company’s Country Representative for what he described as his relentless effort in creating job opportunities for the people of Sierra Leone.
The Minister noted that as a Government, they are always ready to support him since the country needs people like him who are always thinking of adding value to development.
Minister Kabba said, this is a clear demonstration of President Julius Maada Bio’s efficient leadership in delivering his promises on taking the country in the right direction.
On his part, Fassalay Tarawally, revealed that the commissioning of the alluvial plant is just the beginning of the mining operations as the company is a two-face mining company, and it would commission the hard rock plant within six (6) months.
According to him, “in one year, the company is expected to start producing 99.9 billion gold bars for exporting”.
Fassalay Tarawally is not a stranger in the mining and minimal sector of Sierra Leone. He is one of the leading diamond and gold exporter in Sierra Leone with more than ten years of experience.
Cheng Li Mining Company is a large-scale gold mining project which is an affiliated mining company that engages in mining activities. The Mining Company has officially started operations after Six (6) months of site preparations and camps building.
It is expected to employ hundreds of Sierra Leoneans within the end of 2021, and more priority would be given to the people of Diang Chiefdom.
The people of Dalakuru, Diang Chiefdom in Koinadugu District were extremely happy, as they were dancing and singing for having such a huge investment and a source of livelihood within their community.
Hundreds of young men have been employed by the company recently
Since the 1980s when mining started in Diang Chiefdom, there had been no tangible impact on the community, but residents testified that the coming of Cheng Li Mining Company in six months, has recorded massive developments.
PC Sheku Magba the 3rd Paramount Chief, Diang Chiefdom emphasized that Cheng Li Mining Company had secured them with a road network, scholarship for school pupils, construction of houses, employment of hundreds of locals within the chiefdom.
