Our investigations have revealed that 556 Carat diamond was discovered in Kono in the Eastern Province of the republic of Sierra Leone three months ago, but there are currently lots of controversies surrounding the diamond.

According to our findings, the 556 Carat diamond was allegedly discovered in Kono by six young men who are currently in the custody of the police at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters in Freetown. The report further alleged that these young men at midnight surreptitiously went into a plot of land designated for mining activities and whilst they were washing the sand at the designated mining site the 556 Carat diamond was allegedly discovered.

Our investigations also revealed that these young men took the diamond for sale to diamond dealers around Kono and beyond but none of the diamond dealers accepted to buy the diamond because such   diamond can only be sold by the state and not by individuals.

The matter was first reported at the Tankoro Police station in Kono and later the matter was transferred to the CID Headquarters in Freetown for further investigation.

Before going to press, there is a suspicion going around that police have allegedly compromised the matter at the detriment of the state but all efforts made to get the side of the police have proven futile.
