Office of H.E. Ernest Bai Koroma, Former President of Sierra Leone 2007-2018
Former President Koroma Remains Ready to Cooperate With The ACC At All Times
Makeni – 8th October, 2020 – Following the publication of the Commissions of Inquiry (COI) reports and the Government White Paper thereto, Sierra Leone’s well –regarded statesman has repeatedly expressed his determination to legally defend his good name being needlessly tarnished by the adverse findings in those reports.
The public is hereby reminded that the Sierra Leone 1991 Constitution, Section 149 (4), provides that the findings of a Commission Of Inquiry have the effect of a High Court judgment and can be appealed. But even though he has instructed his lawyers to accordingly file in an appeal, the Anti – Corruption Commission (ACC) has, in a curious turn, given indication that it once again wants to open an investigation into the same exact issues already dealt with by the COI. This unusual action notwithstanding, former President Koroma has acceded to the ACC request for questioning as a mark of respect for a state institution he empowered during his tenure as president of this country.
“I was looking forward to today’s interview and to hear from the ACC why they intend to open an investigation into issues that have already been investigated, adverse findings made and which I am appealing in the relevant courts of the land. It is therefore deeply unfortunate that despite all assurances given by my legal representatives and the state security attached to me, the ACC still decided to unilaterally call off the proposed questioning mutually agreed to take place at my residence today”, said former President Ernest Bai Koroma.
Be that as it may, former President Ernest Bai Koroma, has reiterated his commitment to peace and security, due process and the rule of law, as well as his willingness to cooperate with the ACC at all times.
