Attorney General and Minister of Justice Alpha Sesay has appealed to United Nations Member States to support Sierra Leone’s candidate, Professor Charles Jalloh, in the ongoing election of judges to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, Sesay called on member states to vote for Professor Jalloh, describing him as a distinguished Sierra Leonean jurist with the scholarship, experience and integrity required to serve on the world’s principal judicial body.
He highlighted Jalloh’s contributions to international law, noting that his career has been defined by a commitment to justice, the rule of law and the development of international legal principles.
The Attorney General further emphasised that Professor Jalloh would bring exceptional legal scholarship, extensive international judicial experience and practical knowledge of domestic and international legal systems to the Court.
He also described the candidate as a person of integrity, independence and professional excellence, whose understanding of legal challenges confronting the international community would be valuable to the institution.
Sesay concluded his appeal by presenting Professor Jalloh as an eminent African jurist and a candidate ready to serve the world, urging UN Member States to support his election.
